2007 Boat League Legs 1&2

Kilmore Quay, 7th & 8th April

The Boat League for 2007 got underway with a magnificent turnout of 67 members at Kilmore Quay over the Easter Weekend.

8 Charter Angling Boats from the renowned local Charter Fleet facilitated the group. The weather was glorious which added to the enjoyment of the event which was great as many of the anglers had partners and family with them for the Holiday Weekend.

Day one started at 9 am as the anglers arrived for the check-in. The boats left harbour at 10 for lines down at 10.30. Lines up at 4.30 saw a very happy bunch head back to harbour after a very good days competition. A total of 1,234 fish had been recorded, all of which were returned to the sea apart from a few kept for culinary purposes.

Boat winners on Day One were:

Day Two was also fished from 10.30 to 4.30. Fishing was much improved on day one with a super catch of 2,307 fish.

There were joint winners on 2 boats !
Among the 3,541 fish recorded were Cod, Pollack, Coalfish, Ballan & Cookoo Wrasse, Ling, Pouting, Dab and Lesser Spotted Dogfish.

The Presentation Dinner was held in the Wooden House Lodge Hotel where the awards were presented by EFSA Ireland Chairman George McCullough. In his address George glowing in his appreciation of the super turnout and especially welcomed the non angling guests present. He reminded all present that this years League together with the final result from the 2006 League would decide the 2 International Teams to represent Ireland at the European Boat Angling Championships to be held in Cobh in 2008. He went on to speculate that given the intense competition, friendly though it may have been over the weekend it will certainly increase as the league progresses and it should make for 2 exceptionally strong teams.

The Anglers will be in Cahirsiveen over the May holiday Weekend to contest Legs 3 & 4. Entries must be with the Hon. Secretary, Warren Doyle before April 20th.
