Godfrey Donohue

With the bad weather over the past couple of weeks, the lakes have been fishing very well. Philip Reynolds has been catching big bags of silver fish, Rudd to 1 lb and roach to 1.8 lb. Al Walsh yesterday had 7 carp to 9.8 lb, 5 good hybrids and 4 tench to 4 lb. He caught another 5 carp today.

Harry Kilpatrick also had 7 carp and some bream to 3lb and 2 tench. Alan Darcy caught 5 good hybrids and 1 bream and a couple of carp. Barry Mellon is also catching a good mixed bag of fish. Aidan D has been pulling out carp roach and rudd all week with his daughter Nikita.

The trout lake has produced some large trout to 14 lb for Paddy from Rory's fishing shop. He had 13 fish in total including 2 doubles. Gar Murphy caught 10 trout. Trout angler Tommy Egan Tuesday evening had 12 trout - best fish 11 lb. Tommy was also down earlier in the week with his son and they had over 60 fish on the coarse lake. Reggie Coates had 3 trout. Over all both lakes are fishing very well.

BWO's in the rain

Written by Marc O'Regan

The best hatches of last week came in the rain and even though heavy the trout were coming to the Dun, usually lying flat on the water and taken in spent fashion. Hatches of May fly were also evident and the trout did take them in addition to their dying friends later in the day. The sedges made appearances throughout the daytime hours (of which there were many) and trout preferred the emerger in these conditions.

Alberto Parajon and his son Miguel from Spain had some very good fishing with trout up to 15 inches and many at 13 and 14. Miguel who is 16 is a very fine young angler and at this early stage shows some lovely touches with the dry fly especially in the relaxed and deliberate striking technique, something rare among juveniles.

Boyne trout are in superb condition and look good and healthy. I have included a photo of one of these trout which I think is remarkable for markings and proportion and not size.
