Fishing Reports

27 November 2006

Well known Irish angling journalist and specimen hunter Liam Kane from Blanchardstown in Dublin recently caught a fine Pike of 24 lbs. from Lough Ramor, Co. Cavan. Liam used a float trolled deadbait to lure the big fish from a deep area of the lake. After a quick Photograph and weighing, the big Pike was returned to the Lake to grow even bigger. His boat partner, Ray MacElhinney, Bettystown, Co Meath caught a 21lb pike on the next cast on a sink and draw.

Rod Taylor and Jim Richards from Miami decided to try their hand at some pike fishing with fly. Both gentlemen were dedicated trout anglers and were sorry to here our trout season had ended. A few quick Lessons and we were ready to push the boat out. The weather was perfect for casting those big pike flies, with high pressure, good light and very little wind. We managed 9 pike in the 2lb to 5lb range, and one of 11.5lb.

Jim's face said it all, as the pike stripped the reel for the third time, knees knocking he turned to me and shouted HELP!! Rod and Jim added another string to their bow and can't wait to return for more of the same.
