Breaky lake in county Cavan, fishing well on Sunday 18th November, three Dublin anglers reported that while the pike were finicky with three or four dropped runs, they managed to land four with the biggest 12lb caught by Les Kileen. All fish were taken on dead bait.
Three anglers fished Urvey lake on Sunday 18th, with a cold north east wind, fishing was difficult from their boat. A number of fish were dropped at the net, two fish were landed, the biggest was 8lb. Dead bait fished under float was what caught the fish.
Blessington lake fished well over the last seven days with most anglers fishing at the weekend. Conditions were tough, cold and wet, however a good number of doubles were landed. An 18lb fish was taken at Valleymount, one 13lb fish at Baltiboys, a 16lb and a 16.5lb were taken at the mouth of the Kings river and a 14lb fish was landed at Russellstown. All pike came to static dead baits.
During the week four Dublin anglers had good 'rasse' fishing from the rocks at the right of Carnsore point. The four men landed 17 rasse between them, ranging between 2 and 4lb. Two local anglers landed two fish between 5 & 6lb. All fish were caught on lug worm and squid on a falling tide. They also landed four small ling and the sea was described as very choppy.
Anglers fishing on Wicklow beaches and at Dun Laoghaire have reported the whiting showing up. Mackerel and Sand Eel will work well now as the nights get colder. It is recommended to fish long snoods on the fast tide with fixed grip leds. On slack tides it is essential to fish short snoods with five ounce grip leds.
There have been some reports from anglers of large solitary bass turning up. One fish was caught on a Wicklow beach in recent days weighing 11lb.
On Saturday 17th, venue Annamoe, the winter league was held with more than 20 fish caught, some fish weighing over 5lb. Fishing was described as excellent. All the rainbow fell to lures fished on sunken lines.
