It has been reported to have fished well in recent days. Dabs, flounder, whiting and dogfish, one angler had a smooth hound, the size of which is not known. Lug worm and sand eel have been working well.
An angler fishing Greystones south beach on Sunday night (25th November) had whiting, dabs, and dog fish all on sand eel. Conditions were described as clear sky, calm sea and the full moon. He also caught a small cuckoo ray of about 25cm in length and was delighted to see this species present again off the beach.
Cuckoo ray have returned to Greystone south beach.
Anglers fishing beaches north of Courtown are pleased with the way the beaches have been fishing and say there is a definite improvement. One angler fishing at the weekend on Sunday with a light off shore breeze had 22 fish which included whiting, rockling, plaice, flounder and dabs. Best bait – lug worm tipped with mackerel or whiting.
Anglers appear to have struggled for a big fish over the weekend. Dublin Angling Initiative group drew a blank fishing static baits and spinning at Valleymount bridge on Saturday (24th November). Kilbride anglers fishing Blessington on Sunday had a number of small fish. One fish of 14lb caught on a static dead bait was also reported on Sunday.
A recent pike fishing lesson to Castle lake by 10 members of the Dublin Pike Anglers produced approximately 50 pike, the largest been 6lb. Conditions were calm and cold and the lake was its normal water height. Nearly all the fish were taken on wobbled baits or sink and draw. Some anglers fished static baits in the hope of a big one but the big hens were just not in the mood.
Members of the Portobello angling club were fishing the carp lake at Corkagh park on Saturday and had reasonable success. Richie Keegan had a 7lb fish and Danny Campbell had a fish to 9.5lb. In spite of the time of year, a number of bream were also landed with the biggest fishing weighing 4lb. Floating dog biscuit worked well and boilie and sweet corn will do the job fished on the bottom.
There are plenty of other silver fish being caught by some of the regular young anglers and by our groups - roach and perch to 1 lb.
The all year round rainbow trout lake fished well at the weekend. One angler had 35 rainbows on the fly, using orange zonker and muddlers with an intermediate line and fluora carbon leader.
We had a competition on the trout lake last week with the Dundalk Trout Anglers. There was 11 fish caught and two of our local anglers had 60 fish over the weekend. Average size of the trout being caught at the moment is 3 lbs. Best trout this week 10 lbs. Most being caught on buzzers and bloodworm flies with some lures working also.
