Corkagh Park Report

Godfrey Donohue Managing Director reports from the CORKAGH PARK FISHERY near Clondalkin in Dublin. Ph: +353 (0)1 4592622 mob: +353 (0)87 2650495 e-mail: fishing@ireland.com Web: www.CorkaghParkFishery.com

A great day was had on the Grand Canal at Lucan last Thursday. 60 anglers from the Irish Wheelchair Association from all over Ireland took part in a coarse fishing competition. Waterways Ireland prepared the venue by cutting out swims, cutting the grass and adding extra stocks of fish to the stretch of canal being fished.

Sean Campbell gave encouragement to the anglers

About 3000 fish were put into the area over the past 3 weeks. Fishing was hard even though the water was clouded. The overall winner, Stuart Glendenning had 11 Rudd to 9oz. In second place was Mike Rogers with a Roach and Rudd, and 3 anglers had joint 3rd place with 1 Rudd each. All fish caught were put back into the water straight away. Trophies and medals were given to the top 10 anglers and everybody got a gift from Waterways Ireland.

Aoife Morrisse, Waterways Ireland, with overall winner Stuart Glendenning

Millard Brothers sponsored rods and reels as did Corkagh Park Fishery. In total 40 rods and reels were given out in prizes on the day.

The Irish Wheelchair Association then brought everyone back to the Lucan H.Q. and prepared a great meal for all the helpers and anglers, and provided music late into the evening. A big thank you to Aoife Morrissey and Waterways Ireland for a great venue and a fantastic day on the Grand Canal, also Kathleen McLoughlin C.E.O. Irish Wheelchair Association for spending the day on the canal helping, and for a fantastic prize-giving at the end of the day.

Thanks to all the helpers and staff of Corkagh Park Fishery for facilitating the event and a big thanks to Anne Lowry from the IWA for her organisational expertise. In total we had 120 anglers and helpers on the day. Well done everybody and once again thanks to Waterways Ireland - the competition would not have been so successful without their support.
