Corkagh Park Report

Godfrey Donohue Managing Director reports from the CORKAGH PARK FISHERY near Clondalkin in Dublin. Ph: +353 (0)1 4592622 mob: +353 (0)87 2650495 e-mail: fishing@ireland.com Web: www.CorkaghParkFishery.com

The trout lake is producing with very small flies (anywhere from size 16 to size 22). Apple-green, sedge and black midge are some of the better flies.

Gar Murphy caught approx 35 trout over 3 days last weekend. Joe Heffernan had a couple of nice trout to 4 lbs. Mike Slattery and his fishing buddy Joe, had some trout to 3 lbs today. Jimmy Finnegan from Lucan is catching well on every visit. There are a lot of very big double-figure fish showing but are proving elusive to land - a couple of our anglers have hooked them but lost them.

We had Paul Bourke from the Central Fisheries Board and three of his colleagues fishing on the trout lake during the week and they were amazed at the quality and quantity of the trout in the trout lake.

The carp lake produced very well last week with the regular anglers atching good bags of carp daily. Over this past week and a half there have been approx 100 carp landed. Aidan Deegan had 15 of them, Al Walsh had 30, Harry Kilpatrick had about 26.

The lakes are open from dawn to dusk seven days a week, all year round.

Monaghan Pairs Coarse Fishing Competition

Lough Muckno, Co Monaghan

35 pairs fished the Monaghan Pairs competition on Lough Muckno in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan last week. Anglers from all over the UK took part and stayed in Hope Castle overlooking the beautiful Lough Muckno. The fishing was fantastic – 4,221 kilos of coarse fish were caught in total over the week from Black Island, White Island and Concra Wood.

The results were as follows:
1st: Stephen Greg & Mark Webb
2nd: Matthew Foster & Bob Holt
3rd: Craig Ellis & John Plowes

Many thanks to all the local organisers and to the local landowners for allowing the competition to go ahead. The event contributes a great deal to the local businesses in the area and continues to attract new UK anglers to Monaghan each year. A big thank you to Barry Smith for organising the logistics from the UK. For further information, contact Barry on 0044 128 2778308

Please note: Local anglers are welcome to take part in the competition (up to 20 pairs)
